After breakfast, depart Accra for the Central Region, travelling through Ghana’s changing landscapes toward Assin Manso. Go on a guided tour of the place, see the Ancestral Slave Cemetery and Memorial. You’ll also get the opportunity to walk on the ancestral path and step into the river yourself if you choose – to honour those who stood here in chains and to spiritually cleanse and prepare yourself for the castle dungeons visits ahead.
Arrive in Cape Coast and continue to the castle dungeons, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that served as one of the most active slave-trading posts on the West African coast. The guided tour takes you through the Door of No Return, into the airless, pitch-dark dungeons, and up into the various quarters where our ancestors were kept.
